At Parenting and Mental Health, presented in partnership with Tara Rolstad, of Shattering Stigma with Stories, you will hear from both parents and youth who have dealt with mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, panic disorder, ADHD, and suicidal ideation.
The event will also include presentations from local therapists and school psychologists, who will provide information about specific mental health issues kids face, and hands-on practical tools parents can use right away with children and families in their community.
The event will include:
Hear from parents and youth who have lived experience dealing with mental health challenges
Information on specific mental health challenges kids face (including anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicidal thoughts)
A safe space for you to share what you are dealing with at home and connect with others
Hands-on practical tools you can use right away in your relationships with youth in your community.
“There are exactly zero chapters in any of the pregnancy books on what to expect when parenting a child with mental health issues.”
Rolstad has been there, both as a foster parent to a niece who lived with severe mental illness, and as parent to a child of her own that struggles with serious depression and ADHD. She helps parents wrestle with questions like, how do you know when your kid needs help? How do you help when one of your child's friends is struggling? What kind of help do they need? What do you do in a crisis?
